Castlemartyr Resort in Castlemartyr, County Cork, Ireland, has announced it has been inducted into Historic Hotels Worldwide, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation (United States of America) for recognizing and celebrating the finest historic hotels around the globe.

Historic Hotels Worldwide promotes heritage and cultural travel by featuring a prestigious collection of historic treasures including historic hotels and other historic lodgings spanning more than 10 centuries in more than 47 countries around the world.

“Historic Hotels Worldwide is honored to induct Castlemartyr Resort, a spa and golf resort destination that cleverly marries a 17th century Palladian style Manor House to a contemporary hotel,” said Lawrence Horwitz, Executive Vice President of Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide. “We welcome Castlemartyr Resort and its leadership team into Historic Hotels Worldwide.”

Historic Hotels Worldwide membership is exclusive to select hotels, resorts, and inns with lodgings at historic sites that are at least 75 years old and offer historic accommodations. Though it is a diverse collection, each member is required to possess one or more of the following qualities: it served as the former home, or it is located on the grounds of the former home, of famous persons, or it is a significant location for an event in history; it is located in or within walking distance to a historic district, historically significant landmark, place of a historic event, or historic city center; it has been recognized by a local preservation organization or national trust; and it displays historic memorabilia, artwork, photography, or other examples of its historic significance.

Brendan Comerford, General Manager of Castlemartyr Resort said, “We are delighted to become members of the prestigious Historic Hotels Worldwide association. Castlemartyr Resort has an 800-year history that we are custodians of. We are proud to be part of this history and take great care of our historic estate and our ancient buildings, from the 18th century Manor House to the 800-year-old Castlemartyr Castle ruins. We incorporate this history into our guest’s experience and welcome our guests to create their own chapter in the ongoing story of this estate.”

Ireland’s Sheen Falls Lodge, Trinity Town House, and Tulfarris Hotel & Golf Club are three sister destinations of Castlemartyr Resort.
