It’s not just race goers that are glamming up for the Galway Races!  A flock of toucans has arrived in Galway’s Latin Quarter at The Quays Bar Galway who have proudly unveiled a vibrant new mural on its exterior, ahead of the week. The colourful and creative transformation of this iconic and historic bar is just one more reason to check off this must visit spot on your Galway bucket list!

And with 7 days of top musical acts planned from Monday 29th July to Sunday 4th August there is no better spot to soak up race week atmosphere!

Owner Louis Fitzgerald has partnered with the talented husband-and-wife team, Ruairi and Caroline from FeatureWalls, to reimagine the building’s exterior with a custom mural. With over 25 years of experience, Ruairi and Caroline are renowned for creating some of Ireland’s most spectacular murals. Their latest masterpiece brings even more colour, character to Quay Street, with scenes of Galway harbour, a traditional Irish fingerpost sign, a majestic swan and the beloved Guinness Toucan flying with pints of the black stuff perched on its beak all set against a vivid sky blue painted background.

The award winning Quays Bar and Music Hall has long been a magnet for visitors, photographers, music enthusiasts and food lovers. The famous Galway Girl Statue, proudly positioned at the entrance, has been a favourite photo op for locals and tourists alike, while their Music Hall  is a mecca for live music with its iconic pipe organ stage on stilts. They serve traditional Irish dishes and modern favourites seven days a week from 12 – 9pm in the inhouse Galway Girl Restaurant. Now with the addition of this dazzling new mural the venue is sure to enchant all who visit.

As the countdown to the highly anticipated Galway Race week begins, the Quays are delighted to unveil their musical lineup during the 7 day horse racing festival. Popular musical acts performing at The Quays will include footstompers like Mike Denver, High Stool Prophets, Ruaile Buaile, All Folk’d Up, Mindbenders, Off the Record and Big Digger. The main bar will also have live music from 6pm daily.

Louis Fitzgerald, a visionary in Ireland’s hospitality industry, commenting on the  new mural said; “We hope it’ll be a great talking point for locals and visitors to Galway. We wanted to bring even more colour, character, and atmosphere to the street. The Quays already attracts hundreds of photographs each month with the ‘Galway Girl’ Statue, and we believe this new mural will draw similar attention. Galway is home to incredible artwork and murals, and we’re thrilled that The Quays is now part of that family and trail! With an incredible lineup of music for the Galway Races at the end of the month, we’re delighted to have the mural finished in time for it!”

The new mural at The Quays Bar Galway is a celebration of art and culture which makes The Quays an essential stop for anyone exploring Galway. Locals and visitors alike are invited to follow the toucans to The Quays Bar for festival fun  this Galway Race Week.
