The first ever Michelin-starred pub in Ireland has published its debut book – and it’s already been named one of the best in the world.

The debut book by Michelin starred Aidan McGrath is in line for a top international literary award – just weeks after being published.

The Wild Honey Inn: An Irish Dining Pub by Aidan McGrath is up for a Gourmand 2024 World Cookbook Awards in its ‘Hotels’ category.

Published by A Way With Media in May, the boxed, cloth-bound book tells the story – and shares the recipes – of McGrath, who holds a star for his restaurant in The Burren, on Ireland’s West Coast.

Mr McGrath opened The Wild Honey Inn in 2009 creating a restaurant showcasing the best local produce, along with stylish and cosy accommodation.

On receiving the nomination, he said: “I’m thrilled. Writing the book was a labour of love and allowed me to showcase what we do. We were proud to become Ireland’s first Michelin-starred pub and we’ve attracted guests from across the country.

“We wanted to tell our story in a book and for a respect panel of judges to have named it one of the best books in the world for 2024 is beyond our dreams. The book’s available directly from us, via the website, and we hope people enjoy it as much as they’ve enjoyed the restaurant.”

The Gourmand 2024 World Cookbook Awards, which celebrate food and wine writing from across the globe, marks its 30th anniversary this year.

Mr McGrath is on a shortlist for the top award and will hear later this year whether he has won the top prize.
